Shortwave Radio Receivers This Shortwave Radio category includes radios that are feature rich. Many of these radios have multiple power sources, like dynamo cranks or solar cells. These shortwave radios also have broad coverage options. You can choose a shortwave radio that will allow you to listen to local AM/FM stations, weather stations, shortwave bands, aircraft bands, and others. Some of these Shortwave Radios offer single-sideband (SSB) circuitry to receive the SSB voice communications used in amateur (HAM) radio. |

Weather NOAA/SAME Alert Radios These weather radios all have NOAA ALERT or S.A.M.E. ALERT features. The NOAA weather radios broadcast National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day. NOAA weather plus "ALERT" means that an alarm is sounded when there are emergency weather conditions. S.A.M.E. technology provides local weather reports from the National Weather Service. This is important in areas with dangerous changes in the weather such as a tornado or flashflood. |
Two-Way Radios The two-way radios category covers several radio bands. FAMILY RADIO SERVICE ( FRS) radio does not require any license. The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) requires an FCC license permitting you and your family members to communicate over several miles. The Extreme Radio Service (eXRS ) uses new technology that provides superior communications. The eXRS radios, Citizens Band (CB) radios), and marine VHF radios do not require a license. |
